A LITTLE ABOUT US:
We are a family of five, we think we are rather ordinary; however, our teenage daughters will tell you different. Paige is 17, Casey 14 and Leila 8. Leila wasn’t planned. She wasn’t even considered. In our minds, our family was complete. Little did we know that Leila was always meant to be. God knew we needed her.
She fought for her life. God fought for her, and so did we.
The gynae we were seeing offered us 2 x white tablets – five times! To get rid of our problem. That was such a dark, dark time in our lives. We didn’t know which way to turn. We had been pushed into a corner. A dark corner where those 2 tablets seemed like a possible option to get our “normal” life back. We never had confirmation that Leila had Down Syndrome. The amnio was unsuccessful twice. God had another plan.
Leila was born on the 1 May 2011. Leila means – Bringer of Light. Little did we know that this little girl was going to bring a whole lot more light than we ever imagined.
Verster accepted her diagnosis a lot quicker than me. I lived in a blur, a thick fog for a few months. Trying to keep her covered – so people wouldn’t look twice. I had to physically stop myself from hyperventilating at the thought of the extra costs, possible health issues and so on. Our parents, family and friends were exceptional. They embraced us, they embraced Leila, they embraced our family.
HOW LONG HAS LEILA BEEN AT BLOOM:
Leila has been thriving at Bloom for 2 years… this being her third year.
WHY IS BLOOM CENTRE THE BEST SCHOOLING ENVIRONMENT FOR LEILA:
Firstly, we think each and every staff member at Bloom is there because they are called, God has handpicked them and they have been obedient, and they choose to be there. The Bloom system embraces Leila and wants the best for her. A team works with her… ensuring the best outcome for her, reaching her full potential. We just love the relationship between the staff, they are family. They love God, they love each other, and they really do love our children.
FOR THOSE BEGINNING A SPECIAL NEEDS JOURNEY..
Don’t be overwhelmed. A lot of what we worry and stress about rarely comes to pass. Yes, be real. But fretting doesn’t help anyone. Take one day at a time. One step at a time. Take time to breathe. Celebrate every achievement.
MOST INSPIRING SCRIPTURE:
This is the Scriptural meaning for Leila’s name:
Ecclesiastes 3:11 New International Version (NIV)
11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet[a] no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.
How amazing that God is making and will continue to make EVERYTHING beautiful in His time. Leila lives a life so pure and innocent. She loves God with all her heart. And she shows people each and every day – God’s unconditional love.
SEARCHING PARENTS CONSIDERING BLOOM SPECIAL NEEDS SCHOOL…
TRY IT!!! You have nothing to lose. You won’t know unless you give Bloom a chance, allow the team to help your child reach his or her full potential. It’s also great to get to know other parents, families that are on the same or similar journey. Share experiences, share knowledge, but have permission to be real! We get each other! We don’t have to over explain things. We just understand each other.
